Laura Zingmond — Senior Admissions Counselor

Laura Zingmond has 20 years of experience advising New York City families, policymakers, and advocates on public school policy and admissions from early childhood through high school. As Senior Editor for the popular website, InsideSchools, Laura has visited hundreds of public schools, observing instruction, touring facilities, and meeting with school leaders, teachers, parents, and students. Her countless hours spent in schools and working with families informs all aspects of her work, whether it’s counseling on admissions, writing about public schools and education, contributing to policy research, or advocating for systemic change.

During her tenure at InsideSchools, Laura served three years as the Manhattan Borough President’s appointee to the city’s Panel for Educational Policy, where she worked closely with the Schools Chancellor and other top education officials. Laura was named to City & State’s 2020 Education Power list and has been quoted in many publications including The New York Times, New York Daily News, The 74, and City Limits.

Laura is also a contributing editor to Understanding FAFSA & Financial Aid, a non-profit, online guide dedicated to helping students and families pay for college.

A lifelong New Yorker, Laura and her children are proud graduates of the city’s public schools. Laura holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
